| This was not my intention. In May, my boss said he'd extended my contract by a month, and I said ok. I called my contracting company in early June and asked "what is the date that my contract is up" and they said "July 2nd". It did not occur to me that this might be TOTALLY ERRONEOUS or to get it in writing. A week ago I mentioned to my boss that my contract was up on the 2nd, wondering silently why he never mentioned it. He acted surprised and I just assumed he's insane (there have been plenty of other indications, and he has a notoriously poor memory). Well, in my exit interview, in addition to saying that I delivered on what I was contracted to do and saying that I'm leaving on good terms, he mentioned that my contract was actually through the end of July. I didn't say anything, and took it fairly skeptically. But later, I got a call from a person at the contracting company, a person I'd talked to several times in the last few weeks about finding a new job but NOT the specific person who told be July 2nd, and she said "OMG YOUR CONTRACT IS THROUGH THE END OF JULY" -- even now I have to pry to get an actual date. She didn't even know and had to go look . . . okay July 25th. Wow everybody. Thanks.
Of course, since learning that July 2nd was my last day, I'd planned an 11 day trip to North and South (and West and Up and Strange) Carolina commencing on the 8th. And anyway, they've taken my badge and gun and disabled my accounts. So whatever. I told her, "You need to know that I don't bail on my fucking contracts!"
