Look. If Breaking Bad hadn't been so stellar for so long, I would (and still might) call the first season of True Detective the single greatest thing that's ever been on TV.
They can't take that away.
But I mean, what the fuck is this. A bunch of boring characters mumbling to each other for an hour. You're killing me, Nic. Nic. NIC. You're killing me, bro. I know the pressure was on, but this is borderline unwatchable.
I thank you for your time.
All my stupid assumptions were ruined.
I thought the "deal" with True Detective was gonna be them taking two people who aren't really great actors and give them the best material of their careers. Stupid! So stupid of me! You can't create a trend based on one "thing." (Season One, in this case.) Man, that was dumb. Vince Vaughn is terrible and Colin Farrel is nothing special so I thought they were doing this but no.
Then I thought the "deal" was gonna be flashbacks and I think there was one with Farrel? They failed to establish any reason why we should care about him in the first one.
I dunno. Each scene takes maximum concentration to comprehend. This is good, because TV has been the worst form of media for a million years. Now they make shows where you gotta concentrate and even then you might not get answers for a while.
I'm gonna watch it because I trust the NIC, but I feel I'll need to watch it three times to really get it. Maybe this is a good thing.
