Sad is that I recalled all that from memory, sadder still is that I'd been using Pagemaker since 2.0. One of the jobs that got me through college was setting ads for the Chicago Sun-Times. Fucking horrible job, setting copy for broadsheet ads (dual tabloid, think grocery ads) on a Mac plus using that shitty program when it was much shittier. I was on the cutting edge of hating Pagemaker. This is also where I learned a simple truth, all printers are cheap cunts. From the QuickPrint down the block to RR Donnelly. Agencies are were the money's at.
How I Started Drinking. Not that I ever really loved Quark either. It wasn't until Indesign 2.0 that I actually opened a page layout program without uttering a string of silent curses. I haven't read shit about the merger but I am lamenting this; Macromedia customer service actually services customers. I had purchased Macromedia Studio MX 2004 for something last year and lost track of the CD. The user account download link deal wasn't working, so a Macromedia rep set up a temporary FTP site for me. Where as Adobe, after years of paying their upgrade ransoms, registering everything, attending scores of conferences and seminars so that they spam my inbox constantly, still can't keep my fucking UserID on file for a fucking year. I was on the cutting edge of hating Adobe. |
