I tried playing this for some reason. Probably because it didn't require me to install anything, so what the hell?
So the basic idea is that you are a kid having a sleepover at a friend's house. Your friend has an "uncle who works at nintendo" who comes over at midnight. For some reason, the game ends at that point, but I couldn't really figure out what happened. There's a bunch of creepypasta text about "don't run, child" and etc. but who or what is actually attacking me?
I got two different endings based on whether I chose to hide in the bathroom when midnight arrived, or go to the front door. But both of them were just variants on some creepypasta text appearing and the game being over. According to the developer, there are a bunch of other endings, but I didn't bother trying to get any of them.
I guess I feel like the developer did a poor job of explaining what is actually going on in the game. Maybe this would have been easier with some more visuals, or more time setting up the backstory. This game has the ocassional very minimal visual or sound effect, but in general they were very lazy with it. They should have spent more time on the visuals and sound effects, or extended the story to provide more clues as to what is actually happening. Maybe both. This just feels half-finished, and the fact that the developers touts that there are multiple endings just feels like a cheap trick to pad out the play time.
I suppose Jonesy is right that most Twine "games" are terrible, but I played Howling Dogs earlier and I enjoyed that one, so I gave this shot. Negative. |
