I will say that if you hated the first one there's nothing here that's going to change your mind.

I think this game might have the fastest startup time of any PC game I've played in the last 15 years. I like the outdoor environments instead of just pure dank dungeon crawling, and more puzzles and exploration than the first. I also liked the desert reveal, although had I been a lower level with crappier equipment I would have been pissed.

I only had to cheat 3 times. One was the cemetery gate puzzle and another similar one like that. I had the notes for both and knew what they were asking, but for whatever reason I couldn't get the sequence to work out. The 3rd one was the pyramid door, which involved an item I had thrown away a million years ago and didn't seem obvious to me.

I wish I would have read your post again before I started playing, because I agree with just about everything. I did remember you mentioning barbarians were better fighters so I picked that for my tank class, but I made the mistake of having a firearms guy and I also had a rogue. They should have called the rogue "dies" because that's all he did all the time. As for the firearms guy, in the beginning I could barely find ammo, then in the middle I had ammo but would run out frequently, but then at the boss fight in the castle I had a fucking bow-legged cowboy gait from all the bullets stuffed into my pants pockets. They really didn't space out the ammo well enough, and too often relied on ammo being stuffed in secret rooms. Also, not only are the unique weapons all heavy, but so is the unique armor. It was way too heavily skewed towards fighter classes. I got the impression that the ultimate group would just be 3 barbarians and a battle mage. The game also carried over the problem from the first of it being basically impossible to manage fighting with anything other than enemies directly in front of you, so combat consisted of backing into a corner or corridor so you couldn't get flanked.

The only other tips I would add to your list:

- Don't throw away anything until you pick a spot to be your central item dumping ground. Not even food. I wasted for-fucking-ever walking back through the entire game when I realized I had thrown away a few things I needed to solve some non-trivial puzzles. I recommend dumping things in the Hub.
- If you want the equipment achievements, be stingier with gold keys since there's several armor pieces locked behind various gold key doors and keys can be hard to come by.
- sacks and boxes are basically extra inventory slots if you can carry the weight, so don't just toss them out if you empty them.
- also seconding marking things on the map. mark opened and unopened chests, locked doors, any sign or magic head that you don't understand right away. Mark it all, because you'll be angry later if you don't.
- do not start the game without an alchemist. Always keep at least one crystal flower in your inventory for the auto-duplication.
