What publisher is going to touch Shadowrun? The IP rights are split between multiple entities. Microsoft owns the Shadowrun video game IP rights, and they're not backing or publishing HBS's Shadowrun development. Quite the opposite, they require licensing fees and impose heavy restrictions (no console development, no retail merchandise). And we don't know if they restrict how the game is funded as well, to prevent 3rd party major investors from staking a claim on some piece of the IP somehow. No matter how you look at it, no major investor will touch a Shadowrun game at this point when there are other opportunities with much less hassle and ROI to be had. So, HBS turns to Kickstarter for help to fund a game that won't get funded otherwise. |
