I say Tiger Woods and Zoe Quinn are both pieces of shit for making commitments with another person that required mutual sacrifice, (everybody's got to let sexual opportunities pass), then not honoring their half of the bargain. If either were single or polyamorous, I would agree that nothing bad happened on a personal level. Professionally I guess Quinn isn't to blame, that responsibility falls on the shoulders of the journalists she fucked and the publications that employ them. Responsibility they flouted in a spectacular synchronized display.
But I say as a proponent of the sexual emancipation of women (something any sane man should be a proponent of) that letting Quinn piggyback the issue to dodge responsibility for her own misdoings cheapens the issue. It gives reactionary forces that want to keep women in their place ammunition in the debate. "You want female contraceptives covered in your health insurance? So you can fuck around irresponsibly like Zoe Quinn? Get bent, only Viagra is protected by the law."
Like it or not, #gamergate is way more complex than the binary white knights vs. misogynists story told by the gaming press. |
