| I think that gamergate has very little to do with the games at this point. You have three sides.
1) The "I know what's best for you" clique. Unable to function in real life, they found like-minded, poverty-stricken losers and bound together for warmth and companionship. Outraged at everything, they wake up and think, "How am I going to be offended in the next hour? The next 15 minutes?" If they go more than four hours without being offended at something, they'll make something up. They love getting people fired. It feels GOOD to be self-righteous. Again, if they were happy people in real life, instead of impotent cauldrons of hate and self-loathing, they wouldn't glomp onto this. 2) The laid-back clique that doesn't take themselves seriously. They are capable of being funny and charming. In fact, they are the only group that can actually be amusing. Good looking, creative (think: Milo) and able to turn this nonsense off and get things accomplished. Most of caltrops fits in here. 3) The side that hates women. What can you say? They actually are worse than the first group. The problem is that the first group doesn't see themselves as having a single thing wrong with them. No self-reflection whatsoever. They honestly think that it's okay to be outraged constantly. They think that some clown wearing a bad shirt is a real problem. They are largely incapable, but not all of them (which is evidenced by how many dumbass game programmers fall into this group). To them, humor is saying "it's about ethics" over and over again. (Starting to see some of that here.) There has been a war brewing between the first and second group for years. The first group will try to expunge the second group out of their life. The second group doesn't care. There is no anti-gg blacklist........... Disagree? Agree? Let's have a real conversation. |
