Pixeljunk: Eden sucks. I think I bought it a year ago during a Steam sale for $.99. I don't remember. I remember hating it. Let's look at some Steam user reviews for a counterpoint:
So in this game you are like a little fairy-bug thing, and you jump and swing around and collect pollen to grow plants so that you can jump on them and go higher up to find and collect magic seed-things for your garden. Or something. I'm really not sure and I don't quite care enough to figure out more.
I bought this game on sale for 99ยข and it's a pretty nice game to zone out and click around in. So if zoning out and jumping around a fairly pleasing atmosphere with some somewhat calm electronic background music is your thing, this game is for you
If you like bonghits, this game is for you.
It's a little weird piece from th gaming industry. You can't tell, if it's good or bad. There is no good or bad. On one hand, you can relax and chill with this game, but on the other, you can try to play it a bit more challengingly and you can get frustrated a lot. It's like a .... I don't know, if you're into jumpy games, you can try it out, it won't hurt you.
You can't really tell if it's good or bad. Thumbs up!
In the end, I'm not entirely sure why I enjoy the game, but it serves as a good way to take a short break from work/studies and relax. It's carefully designed to be moderately engaging but almost never frustrating.
I don't know why I like this. Thumbs up!
I didn't fish for these reviews, these are in the first 4. This game gets by on its artsy fartsy visual motif, but it's just floaty low gravity meandering through a level until you collect an item, and then you return to the level hub. The low grav means you don't so much control your character as loosely guide it, and the challenge comes from you wrestling against your character not doing exactly what you want to and trying to find things throughout a samey looking level. If someone took the half-baked ideas in put them in a more traditional looking video game, people would call it crap, but since it's mildly interesting to look at now it's "experimental" 8/10. If it played itself and were a screensaver, it might be worth $.99 if you're into that kind of thing, otherwise don't ever bother.
