Mattie Brice was asked to be one of the hundreds of judges for the Indie Game Festival.
Mattie Brice made jokes that she was going to "downvote" every game developed by a man.
People freaked out over Twitter.
IGF asked her not to reference the IGF even in jest or if she is joking.
The IGF later removed her.
Let's have a discussion about this. Clearly Brice was joking. But at the same time, the creators of IGF have a lot invested in their festival. They don't need someone with as much reach as her kidding around about how she is going to "vote." She obviously feels she was wronged, but:
- This is nothing special for her, but the people behind IGF care about it.
- The people making games that are going to be in this festival obviously care about it.
I think context matters. If she had, at any point in her past, proven that she has a sense of humor, she-- OK, I can't do it any more, I was trying to set up a discussion where the OP is neutral, but it's really tough to feel bad for her! |
