Is anyone bothering with another Bioware game?
Nah, never again.
I would make the argument that Baldur's Gate II was the best squad-based tactical game since the first X-COM and that it held onto the title until recently, when a bunch of similar games got Kickstarted. The choices with the magic system coupled with the character classes appearing for the first time in a game made it really special.
And the plot and story weren't awful. If you didn't pick up any of the NPCs you were able to avoid the cringeworthy unfunniness of that one beefy guy and the whining of Imoen. (I doubt I am spelling anyone's name correctly.)
As lazy as making all your "romance" interactions hetero, it's a million times lazier to make everyone bi, which is my impression of Dragon Age. In a crowded marketplace and in a world where I've got maybe an hour a night to futz with a game if I'm lucky, an instant disqualifier is when one of your writers states that she wishes she could skip gameplay altogether. There's a price for that. It sucks that she got genderbashed for it, because it's a deal-breaker regardless.
Maybe some of my impressions of the Dragon Age crew aren't correct. I can accept that. But you read stuff like how they were scraping the fan fiction barrel for writers and there's no way I can give a shit about the result. Games collaboratively written in general fail all the time. (I'm thinking of Deus Ex: Human Revolution where the e-mail and computer stuff was good and a lot of the voiced conversations were much worse.)
So with whatever Dragon Age title comes next, we have a lazy, social justice-centered work written by fan fiction authors and inspired by previous collaborators uninterested in game play. There's a dozen other games where you can move little dudes around the screen, so there's competition in the marketplace now. It will be five times as expensive as its competition and remain that way forever as it has a very passionate fan base.
