Totalbiscuit panned Aces Wild, then later fawned over Ascendant's simplistic sub-Guacamelee fight mechanics as top notch brawling.
#gamersgate cliquishness is bad, but I feel that reviewing games on a volume basis with release date deadlines causes systemic shittiness beyond the payola. Easy to learn (shallow) games make it easier for the reviewer to do their job, so they get preferential treatment. Throw in some "art" to massage their ego and you're winning IGF rewards left and right.
Also, PewDiePie raved over OTTTD, so I bought it and it sucked. Fuck livestreamers. |
