I don't think it matters whether comedies are meant for adults or kids, in general. There are some comedies that are too dark/nihilistic for kids (say, Brain Candy)

It probably depends on the temperament of the kid; God knows, there are enough adults who can't get on with Brain Candy. I remember when I was four the CBC used to show Big Bird in the morning and the Chicken Lady at night, and I didn't see too much of a difference between the two. In fact, it might take a four-year-old to appreciate the comedic genius of the guy who crushes heads meeting the guy with a cabbage for a head. The only parts I absolutely couldn't stand were Scott Thompson's monologues. "We get it, Buddy, you're gay. Get over yourself and make with the gags already! No, not that kind of gags. Jesus." When you're that age, any two kinds of non-procreative sex are pretty much interchangeable in your eyes. It wasn't until puberty that I finally truly understood the hilarious absurdity underpinning every single minute detail of the homosexual experience. Now Scott's self-indulgence is my favourite part!

From the opposite angle, psh-ing on certain movies for being entertainment for adolescents is ironic, on a website largely devoted to discussions about video games.

Yeah seriously. I want to know where Glengarry ranks on Brass balls I get it's personal top ten list of pulitzer prize winning stage plays. If it's right between Sonic The Hedgehog and Cinnamon Toast Crunch he's totally getting a high five because holy shit that's my list too.
