This couldn't be any more misremembered... eMachines didn't exist in 1995, the fastest commercially available desktop was a 133MHz Pentium, and the CPU alone would've set you back more than $400.

You're correct, it was 1998, and it had Windows 98, of course. Which says something about how fast the technology improved - going right along With Moore's Law, whick predicts processor speed doubles about every 18 months, and that in 3 years a machine more than twice as fast was cheaper than the processor alone.

I was wrong, and I'm man enough to admit it.

I don't believe you bought that system at that price any earlier than 1999, and I sure as hell don't believe it came with 256MB of RAM.

I did, and I still have it. And it came with 256 meg, I have not changed anything. It sits in a closet, because I have no use for it and can't bring myself to throw it away.
