This afternoon something was giving off a 4-beep sequence similar to the Emergency Alert System (EAS) notice, which, if you have cable or watch a local station, you'll hear, often including the modem data tones to indicate a transmission.
Thing was, the TV was tuned to a cable/satellite station (USA), not a local station, and there was no banner running at the bottom of the screen which I would expect if the cable company was sending a message, which when they do a weekly or monthly test, Comcast will put up a page showing that text indicating its a weekly or monthly test, and also playing the sound of thunder plus the EAS tone.
Well, it comes back on, and I realize it's not the TV, it's my cell phone. While I'm in Prince George's County, Maryland, my phone has a Virginia (703) area code number, and what it was, was a text message from the National Weather Service announcing a flash flood warning for this area. So it was a good idea. It just happens that the alarm was the loudest thing my phone has ever done.
