Someone asked her a question that nobody could possibly give a shit about:
Given the chance, what character from the big two (Marvel and DC) would you like to write, and what would you do with him/her?
Who gives a shit? Kate Leth hasn't created a single interesting frame of web comic in her life. She's not in the league of the 8-year old that makes Axe Cop.
Here's her worthless answer:
I’d love to do a Batwoman story about her doing Pride in New Orleans. A gay masquerade mystery story, maybe.
For Marvel, I’d probably want to tackle She-Hulk, but I’d need a lot of help with the legal stuff.
I'm sure a gay Batwoman story in New Orleans is Eisner material. No complaints there. Kate just needs to ask herself, "Do I feel like being rich and famous today?"
But the other thing. The thing with Marvel. She-Hulk.
She-Hulk is a character that was only around because she contrasts to the Hulk by not being a rage-stricken vicious psychopath. I don't believe all female comic book characters are there to just contrast with their male counterparts, but initially that was definitely her deal.
She-Hulk became interesting because someone added the courtroom aspect to her character. For comic books, that's a pretty good wrinkle. It's clearly what sets her apart.
Kate Leth wants to write She-Hulk, but literally everything interesting about the character she would need help with. Oh, and her schedule is way too packed to start learning about what it's like to be a lawyer, or maybe take a couple classes (I was going to say "at night" but she could take them during the day, obviously). The tiniest bit of effort to more effectively write the Marvel character that inspires her more than any other ... and she would need "help" for everything that makes the character unique.
She'd nail the rest of it, though! Except she can't draw. Not well enough to partake in a real comic book. What's she contributing to this story, then? The lettering?
(The other thing is, I'd love to be the person tasked with holding her hand through the court cases and shit. "No, Kate, She-Hulk can't sue a blog because they don't use trigger warnings. She is a lawyer, she would therefore not be suing anyone. And n-- N-- No. You can't sue a blog because it contains content you find offensive. Okay, that's fine, whatever. She-Hulk is suing David Caruso and Hulk's pronouns are zir/hir/smash now, sure.") |
