There are two (and only two!) differences in gameplay between the two:

1. Gravity is less of a factor in Retrobooster. It's still there (on most levels SPOIELSRRSSS??) but in G2 it was the ENEMY, and in Retrobooster it's just kinda there as a reminder that physics.
2. RB goes a little Newtonian: When you shoot bullets, you get pushed backward.
3. No fuel.
But here's the biggie, and it's the thing that makes RB better:
4. You can reverse-thrust. That's right, you can face the ground, be shootin' aliens, and then reverse-thrust to counteract gravity. Leads to some really beautiful SHIP-DANCIN', which is the best part of these games.
