...since they've been making Galaga sequels pretty much non-stop for the last thirty years, and Galaga sequels that were definitively better than Galaga since at least Galaga '88. (Hell, Galaga itself was just a product improved Galaxian.) Many would consider the two XBLA Galagas, Galaga Legions and Galaga Legions DX, to be two of the best Galagas yet - basically the Pac-Man CE and Pac-Man CE DX of Galagas. And I like obsolete shit as much as the next guy, but if I had to make Sophie's Choice, if the Crystalline Entity was en route to my planet and I had to pick one Pac-Man to put in Jor-El's rocket*, there's no question: it would be Pac-Man CE.
Jetpac Refuelled, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Space Invaders Extreme, and all of Jeff Minter's Tempest sequels are also better than the originals, but in each of those cases the originals had a lot more room for improvement than Galaga or Ms. Pac-Man. |
