It's been kinda cathartic for me by Roop 05/30/2014, 10:51pm PDT
I've always liked these sorts of games, and this one has made me realize maybe it's all the hours I've clocked sitting in traffic. Now I'm tearing through those same streets driving the way I want to drive. I use mouse/keyboard, none of that controller horseshit, and this handles like GTAIV. I'd replay that game just because driving in traffic is really the whole game, and it's great. So damn familiar architecture is flashing by now, it feels like streets I've sat at stoplights at. They get the feel right of the city at night too, maxed out viewdistance in real Chicago has the same weird effect where it's just car lights dancing around in the distance like fireflies in an animated gif. Maybe it's the pollution, but they got those fake distant headlights perfect.

That's all I like these games for anyway: Drive to a mission, drive somebody or drive somewhere, shoot something or do something, maybe get to drive something again. That's GTA anyway, these Ubi games can become a real drag when you have a million godamn towers to climb. But I'm liking the driving around in this quite a bit. There's a tiny trailer park area that's like mini Wisconsin where I chased some guy. Dammit if only the map could have been huge and included Gary, it could have been the final zone where the gang bangers are decked in body armor and carry assault rifles, just like real life! Would have been my game of the year for an open-world Gary Indiana game.

Hell man! You have the Dunes National Lakeshore, so dune buggys and assault rifles. The streets are like a warzone, Hollywood comes here to film for scenes from low budget apocalypse movies. Boarded up downtown with fiends shuffling around and prostitutes and armed thug pimps, it's great. And steel mills, you kidding me? Always a good location for huge or climactic explosions. In movies people are always randomly finding steel mills when it's time for huge explosions with lots of fire everywhere, and Gary has several of them. They could all have mini-bosses whatever horseshit, but you can go in there, drop people in molten steel, blow the place up, whatever.

We also have cows.
