The name "Watch Dogs" in the title of the game has absolutely nothing to do with animals. The term 'Watch Dog' means something that monitors things. An alarm that advises of how long a batch of something has been cooking or being processed might be called a "Watch Dog timer." I've heard the term used for a computer-based alarm on MSDOS machines about 20 years ago, such as a reboot timer for BBSs so if the machine hangs while processing someone on-line, if there is no regular activity after 20 or 30 minutes, the Watch Dog timer reboots the machine. In this case, the term 'Watch Dogs' is referring to those people who watch over a city, in this case, and monitor for trouble. Now, either the (human) protagonist of the game that you get to play as a PC is one of those Watch Dogs, or you get to hack into the Watch Dogs' computer systems to use them to your advantage, I'm not sure which. Eurocrashed, I probably shouldn't have expected better from the mindless zombie I know you to be.
