If you are in Attrition mode and you are not an elite FPS jockey, take the smart pistol and just run around downing as many mooks as you can. Bring a fast, light armored Titan with anti-personnel weapons (Triple Threat or chaingun). Its super-dash mode will allow you to speedskate-puree tons of them. You are the one who wins these matches, not the people with the most player kills. The cluster missile makes a good anti-infantry weapon as well.
If you're in hardpoint control mode, bring a heavier Titan with an anti-Titan weapon. The 20mm cannon is a good compromise between rate of fire and damage and is effective against infantry. The Quad-Rocket launcher is okay, but I don't use it much. The Arc Cannon and the Plasma Railgun should be avoided. The Arc Cannon is terrible and the Plasma Railgun leaves you way too vulnerable to infantry. For firearms I like the Hemlok BF-4.
