The latest nail in the coffin for me was hearing an acquaintance mention a huge fight in EVE where supercapitals were dying in droves.
"What, motherships by the dozen?" No, titans by the hundred, says my friend. Click this link to the goon website, you've been off the drip long enough I gotta tell you it's live.
A killboard with one fight featuring at least two hundred dead titans, okay. Not the first such fight, but by now they're a regular thing. Also that the lifespan of such a titan is sometimes measured in hours depending on the people flying it, they've become throwaway ships for someone else to fly. EVE is no longer about individuals, it is about rewarding globs of people for paying CCP money as a group.
I asked whether this was worth it and got handed a stupid infographic on a useless math adventure about how a titan was 'worth' $7.5K bucks/ 3.5K hours.
We already know that CCP's cracking down on the little guy con game and the big one isn't fun, and that the gameplay is shit at the alliance level and all the rest.
Can any of you explain to me what makes this game at all fun anymore for the masses, or is it just WoW at this point, nothing left except a cycle of lowsec piracy before nine tenths of the corp joins an alliance and $15/month to gatekill with friends? I no longer see the appeal. It's just shoving your energy into a box over and over until enough time and subscription money is gone for your internet boss' expensive trophy wife to drive that new car your effort financed right off a bridge, but even the security footage from some camera on the highway is no reward because it's boring and choppy.
I'm sure a slew of MMOs fall into this category, if not all. EVE was supposed to be different forever, of course. The only thing left is the single shard bit, and that's no longer relevant in making player action matter because all action is just part of economies of scale and even the biggest things are merely cannon fodder from this point forward. |
