I just rewatched the Lost Room miniseries from 2006. I think this originally aired on the Sci Fi Channel, but despite that, it is actually pretty good.
Basically, it's about this set of objects that give you strange abilities. Part of the fun is that nobody really knows what each object does or why the objects exist. People react in a somewhat realistic way-- some people want to collect them all, some people want to destroy them, some people want to worship them.
I wouldn't say the acting is great, but it's good enough. It probably helps that the script is good. I like that they don't try to over-explain things, or make it an elaborate metaphor for some kind of political or religious thing. The story follows a cop who gets caught up in the world of the Objects.
I was hopeful that they would do something else in the Lost Room universe, but so far they haven't come out with anything. The Sci Fi Channel (I refuse to call it Sy Fy or whatever) created another series called Warehouse 13 which was kinda sorta similar, but it had a terrible steampunk theme and basically was really shitty. |
