ign reviews doom3 xbox port. Poor writing and gayness ensue.

Thanks to our senses already being challenged due to constant darkness, id's calculated knowledge of human nature targets our ears.
calculated knowledge of human nature = dark and occasionally LOUD. a car alarm in the middle of the night would terrify him. And then he would call it a rich character study into clumsy thieves.
I personally became twitchy, cautious of every dark corner, and incredibly tense. At one point while I was playing with headphones on, my wife walked into the room. Offscreen, I saw a single movement and a shard of light, and I instantly turned around, scared out of my wits.
and then in mid twirl the headphone cord gets caught, sending his speakers crashing which sounds just like the wolfman(!) so he spins around so fast his chair unswivels and he falls to the ground...that dracula lives under! A weary wife later washes a mysterious shit stain shaped shit stain out of her husbands drawers.
The audio journals are brilliant little gems all on their own, besides being utilitarian sources for three-digit codes to open lockers. They are well acted, each delivering a distinct personality through voice, diction, and pacing, and they're necessary for attaining more ammo.
"Droning monologue followed by locker code delivery? So ingenious- ohgodUNF"
Using the mechanic of forcing gamers to choose between a flashlight and a weapon, id is able to create a constant tension that reverberates as much in its visual nature as the gameplay.
normally this'd be the part where i dramatically state, "I stopped reading right HEEYAH" but it was like 4 pages in.
he gives it a 9.3. Gamespot only spends 3 pages telling me it sucks and then rates it a 8.5. So a boring but pretty game that mebbe gets a six ALSO gets an extra bonus point for every superfluous review page. There, ive uncovered your insidious inflated score plot game reviewers, plz stop being cute and give the next Final Fantasy game a 4 |
