I'd put it right up with Valken and Gun Hazard, especially with the unique ability to switch robots (and at one point I swear I remember getting into an enemy cruiser as long as the screen and actually flying it around)
I think that was one mission where you had to chase an escape ship pulling out of an exploding station, get your little pilot guy to the controls, then bring it back.
Best pilot moments: when your asshole 2P opponent destroyed all the empty robots on the map and your little guy was flying around knowing he was fucked before that giant mech fried you with a flamethrower.
I almost sort of enjoyed the mildly dumb AI because it reinforced how I wasn't actually in direct control of the units and was in fact merely barking orders at a cluster of semiliterate Russians.
Ugh, don't remind me of the Eastern Front game. Every scenario in that game was fabulously lopsided where it was impossible for the Russians to win. I guess the grognards were creaming their pants over how AUTHENTIC it was where the Russians were unorganized conscripts that got massacred, but you never got the numbers to balance that out. With a game on the scale of CM, it also didn't reflect the fact that, although the Russians always got their ass kicked on a tactical level, it didn't matter because they kept coming and the Germans couldn't replace their losses. One scenario pitted my T-34'd against an equal number of Panzer IV's and friggin Tigers, at long range. The stats said my tanks could penetrate Tiger armor only at point blank range....from the rear. Another scenario gave me nine T-34's against a king tiger. According to the stats it was mathematically impossible for the 34's to kill it. You have to hope it gets stuck in the mud or runs out of ammo. |
