| You said you wanted pizza, so I'm guessing Gino's East for Chicago Pizza, or Lou Malnati's. People argue this shit, best pizza. Personally, I love all of it, I'm a whore. Giordano's is looked down upon, it has become a chain, I believe Pizzaria Uno may also be looked down upon, even if they claim they were the original. Tread carefully in finding your ultimate Chicago Pizza, hipsterisms abound.
If you were to ask my advice, hit Navy Pier maybe that shrimp place, shopping Michigan avenue. You have to see some Chicago Blues, and I'd want to hit some blues bars. Improv is gay and everybody hates it. I guess some people loved that Drew Carey show where everybody was gay and impervising, O so terrible. Mike Meyers at the time was trying to make a show based on the Harold, but improvistation scares Hollywood. You really have to see some of these guys in this city for yourself, trust me... it's Chicago Improv and it's fucking hilarious and often amazing. You can't film it, you can't televise it. Sometimes it's a sport, sometimes it's a play. I remember talking to a guy one time, he's going on about writing for Mr. Show. Told him, never heard of it. No, no, no, it's great, it'll be on cable! Good luck with that, I told him. Hollywood might hate the improv, but the city spawns a huge number of comedy writers. When Conan got his first talk show, he just came to Chicago and hired everybody. I heard it was literally like that. So worth checking out the scene daddy O. So what I would do that weekend is explore the blues district and the improv district each night, and find a good pizze place to eat at each night. Myself? You can't go wrong with any mom & pop pie shop in the city. But maybe the second night you might want to skip pizza, and go for world class food. What is your favorite food? How much are you willing to spend? There's a ton of great places. The key is not to buy alchohol, and there's a lot of really good places to go and not spend that much really. If you need a reservation anywhere get this, I know a guy. Who knows a guy! Isn't that hilarious, CHICAGO! So anyway, I mentioned this thread to a buddy of mine, and he mentioned it: the guy. So I know a guy who knows guy who knows the guy, it's that Al Capone shit baby, I can get you into any place in town! Just give me the date, and Ice Cream Jonsey and party is on the list. |
