Can you really see no functioning difference between Cho Ren/Raiden and the other shmup light shows?
You don't like the graphics. I GET IT.
If you think Raiden was just like Cho Ren Sha, you're wearing some seriously thick rose-colored glasses. Cho Ren Sha has a fast ship with a tiny hitbox, complex interlacing boss patterns, and the entire play area is visible at all times. Raiden has a painfully slow ship with a sprite-sized hitbox, simple but fast boss patterns, and only 2/3rds of the play area is visible at a time, and while nothing will shoot when offscreen, they most certainly will shoot the second they come onscreen from an unexpected angle. Cho Ren Sha is way closer to bullet hell (in fact some could argue it is bullet hell) than Raiden. About the only thing Raiden and Cho Ren Sha have in common are powerup pickups that encourage risky maneuvers.
Raiden Fighters I can totally see being compared to UN Strikers and Cho Ren Sha. Is that what you're thinking of? Because that was originally developed to be its own separate series but had the Raiden title slapped on at the last minute.
But more to the point, usually when someone mentions a type of game nobody's really interested in on Caltrops they're met with silent indifference. But every time I post something shmup-related you're immediately on my case desperate to prove that bullet hell shmups aren't fun. Why the deep seated resentment of this genre? Did an uncle bend you over a cocktail cabinet of Batsugun when you were a kid? |
