Forum Overview :: The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings

I was gifted this game. Surprised how much I liked it. by WITTGENSTEIN 09/23/2013, 6:33pm PDT
Setting: Great.
Story: Great.
Combat: Does an adequate job, presumably after the massive nerf. I set it on easy after the horror stories I heard about its unforgiving combat. Part of the annoying part, especially on the kraken boss was that it gives you NO clue what to do. Thankfully the mage-witch yelled down at me "USE THE TRAP SPELL DUMBASS". I was still at a loss at the end though after the beast is "downed" as to how to finish it off. I kept trying to get towards the glowy bit but it kept smacking me away. Little did I know I was supposed to run up a ramp and drop a fucking frag grenade down on top of it like Casper Van Dien in Starship Troopers.

Things I hate:

1. Having to buy and build a bunch of fucking bombs just to complete a side quest. (Nekker contract) I'm calling this the Ass Creed Revelations rule. If your game requires me to tinker around with building bombs like the fucking UNABOMBER your design doc has taken a wrong turn somewhere. (Nekker contract)

2. Quest/map markers only work half the time. I'm supposed to find a fucking hut that has the troll's wife's head in it. There's like twelve of them and the thick brush means I can barely remember where the hell I've gone in the past two minutes. Similarly I must have spent like 30 minutes looking for the bookstore. There are no quest markers for almost ANYTHING except the primary story. Have an important NPC you gotta go talk to? Search the entire town by hand for him. I hate this.

Still, their team at RedProjekt CD seems to be learning really really fast. So hopefully Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk will have ironed out all these hard lessons.
