[mobiustrip] I for one, cannot wait to play this game.
[Joe_Lieberman] Jenigma, any questions?
[HJenigma] Yes!!!
[American_McGee] I bet she's going to say something filthy.
[HJenigma] Thor: What games would say were the most influential in the making of this game? Also, Joe, why are you trying to make potential consumers angry?
[Joe_Lieberman] Why are potential customers trying to make me angry? ;-) No, I am not trying to make them angry, I am trying to hold a chat that someone can read without offending our guest.
[ThorBlackHammer] Joe, I think she asked me a question first
[i-thodyd] thor i dont mean to offend you but did you really kill all those black people in vietnam
J-Speed has joined the chat.
[Joe_Lieberman] Ah, right, Im out of turn :(
i-thodyd has left the chat.
[HJenigma] :-)
[J-Speed] i have had whoper
[Erik_Rutins] Joe is nice everyone, just give him some sunlight and you'll see :-)
[American_McGee] Wait your turn, J-Speed.
[American_McGee] You goddamn cocksucker
American_McGee has left the chat.
[ThorBlackHammer] Jenigma: We drew inspiration from many sources - the unit movement we wanted to be almost chesslike, with units strictly limited in abilities so that clever combination of them was the key to victory - as well as from Advance Wars, which handles grid-

[ThorBlackHammer] based combat elegantly and simply, as well as games liek X-Com which give you control over small squads on planetary surfaces... the list goes on
[HJenigma] Thank you for your excellent answer.
[ThorBlackHammer] we love startegy here, and we love combat, and we wanted to make a game that reflects that love. Also I love Burgertime but there is a distinct lack of burgers in Supremacy, which perhaps we will fix in the patch.
[ThorBlackHammer] DONE!!!!!
[Joe_Lieberman] Jason McMaster, any questions?
[HJenigma] Thank you again.
[Joe_Lieberman] (and for the record, burgertime was a crappy game)
[ThorBlackHammer] YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH
[Joe_Lieberman] :-)
[Joe_Lieberman] Sir, yes sir!
[JasonMcMaster] Ok, sure. Give me one minute
J-Speed has left the chat.
tha_snazzle has joined the chat.
[Roentgen] I loved burgertime, played it on Intellivision.
[kingprawn] burgertime is funtime!
[tha_snazzle] mcd's petty good also
SpaceMang has joined the chat.
[tha_snazzle] also pizza
[HJenigma] haha
[SpaceMang] sup! is this thing on?
[tha_snazzle] come on do you like 2 eat pizza
ygurts has left the chat.
[ThorBlackHammer] Is that an official question?
[HJenigma] This could have been so much better than you made it. Oh well, have it your way. (TM) :-)
[Erik_Rutins] Yes, we're just waiting for a question from Jason McMaster, questions are proceeding in order according to the sidebar list
kagel has joined the chat.
[Joe_Lieberman] (actually Frost will have the next question by special request)
[Frostilicus] Thank you.
[Frostilicus] It's more of a comment, really, and one I think that needs to be address.
[ThorBlackHammer] Please, feel free
[Frostilicus] Supremacy: Four Paths to Power? Look, I teach american history at a community college in San Fran, and this whole thing stinks of one big metaphor for facist, race oriented imperialism. I mean, black hammer games?
[SpaceMang] what's not cool about space fascism? >:(
[Frostilicus] 'Thor'? That's nordic hate-speak for 'oppresor'
Kapow has joined the chat.
[kingprawn] some of us have serious questions, frosty >:(
[ThorBlackHammer] Well, that's an interesting perspective, if a little "longhaired" if you know what I'm saying (mimes "toking on weed gesture" and points at you), but if you really take a closer look at the game you'll realize that to triumph, you will have to be a uniter
[ThorBlackHammer] not a divider
[ThorBlackHammer] like great uniters in history like martin luther king jr, mahatma ghandi and paste pot pete (aka the trapster)
[Frostilicus] I have just been informed that Thor is indeed your real name.
[ThorBlackHammer] supremacy is all about mixing and matching, mingling and blending
[Frostilicus] I detract my statement and I am gladdened that you have chosen a family name.
[ThorBlackHammer] Black Hammer Game is in New York, the great melting pot of America
[SpaceMang] uniting by suicide bombing and resurrecting your enemies into space zombies.
[ThorBlackHammer] please, accusations of racio-fascism are something that we take very seriously
[ThorBlackHammer] Black Hammer president Matthew Shclanger is jewish and I am 1/8 korean
[ThorBlackHammer] this is not funny
[Erik_Rutins] Frostilicus, it's a sci-fi game, not a political statement. As Yoda said when Luke asked about the tree "What's in there?"... "Only what you bring with you..."
[ThorBlackHammer] I agree
[ThorBlackHammer] And inside the Supremacy tree is a great turn-based strategy experience
[kingprawn] no spoilers! I am watching empire strikes back tonight for the first time!
[Frostilicus] Don't worry Prawn, I'm pretty sure that that never happened in star wars.
[Joe_Lieberman] I think your answer was well addressed Thor
[ThorBlackHammer] Thank you, Joe
[Erik_Rutins] Agreed. Sorry for that Thor, let's move on.
[ThorBlackHammer] I don't shy away from the tough questions
[Joe_Lieberman] Jhoh, any questions?
[Jhoh] Why do you think more well-funded companies like Sony continue to tread water and pollute the gaming world with derivative games (like God of War) instead of innovating like Supremacy: Four Paths to Power (available now for $24.99)?
thorbardin has joined the chat.
[Joe_Lieberman] thor been paying people to ask questions now? heh
[HJenigma] why would you say that
[HJenigma] you are not a very good PR guy
[ThorBlackHammer] Jhoh, an excellent question. One of the reasons we were so excited to partner with Matrix is that their reputation for standing strong behind innovative, fun strategy titles was so good
[ThorBlackHammer] It's a genre that doesn't get a lot of love from the big guys but obviously there's tons of people who want to play it - look at how crowded this chatroom is - and the big names can continue to squeeze out grogans of "edgy" rip-off product all they want
[ThorBlackHammer] but I think our IGF nomination and the quality of Supremacy speak for themselves
[ThorBlackHammer] We don't need to show big boomin' hoons and bloody gore-stumps of people getting quadrospazzed by rip-talons to make a good game
[ThorBlackHammer] And we don't need to sell out with hippity-hop tracks by Ice-Q to connect with the kids
[ThorBlackHammer] DONE
[JasonMcMaster] The current trend, even for strategy games, has moved towards a more 3D environment. Do you believe that the 3D environent is useful in such a situation that was used in Supremacy or could the game be coded in 2D without losing any focus.
[FABIO2000] until the patch
[ThorBlackHammer] Thank you, Jason
thorbardin has left the chat.
[Joe_Lieberman] Kagel, Any questions? (answer Jason's first I suppose)
[ThorBlackHammer] Well, Supremacy is not in full 3D, obviously - we found that strategy games that try to operate on the 3D plane often end up waaay overcomplicated - but we did use 3D models and an engine for the game for a number of reasons
[HJenigma] hey, can someone pm me the key to unlock the game
[SpaceMang] >:)~~~~~
HJenigma has left the chat.
[ThorBlackHammer] Most of my favorite strategy games of the last few years have been 2D - Disgaea, Advance Wars, etc - just because it's easier to balance maps and AI in that space
[ThorBlackHammer] I think the push to 3D is outstripping what designers can reasonably accomplish in some cases, and making games less fun for it
MatrixLuvr has joined the chat.
[ThorBlackHammer] But the standard for PC games is 3d graphics, and that's what we needed to deliver.
[ThorBlackHammer] And pretty nice ones, considering.
[ThorBlackHammer] DONE
JasonMcMaster has left the chat.
JasonMcMaster has joined the chat.
[JasonMcMaster] oops
[Joe_Lieberman] Kagel, go ahead with your question
[ThorBlackHammer] I thought you were so satisfied by my answer that you lef
[kagel] When will this be available for OS X or are you actually the white, monoculture cryptofascists you are accused of being (noticed you skipped Athodyd's questions about negros in Vietnam)?
[Joe_Lieberman] Ah, I dont think that needs answering
kagel has left the chat.
[ThorBlackHammer] Unfortunately, plans for a Mac OS version currently do not exist - as a small studio, we do not have the resources to successfully port to a different OS
Jhoh has left the chat.
[ThorBlackHammer] A Linux version has been asked about as well, same answer
[JasonMcMaster] There is a company that does MAC ports
[Joe_Lieberman] Kapow, any questions?
[JasonMcMaster] outside company
[Joe_Lieberman] (sorry, thought you were done, heheh)
[ThorBlackHammer] But I think if I was a monoculture cryptofascist, I wouldn't have given you four paths to power, you know?
[ThorBlackHammer] Jason: It's possible, we have done some research, but we'd want it to be worthwhile to all parties
[MatrixLuvr] thor, the guy who asked that has left mysteriously
[MatrixLuvr] there is no need to answer
[ThorBlackHammer] Also, to remind you, I am 1/8 korean and thus cannot be accused of racism
[FABIO2000] Shouldn't there be four operating system paths?
automman has joined the chat.
[Joe_Lieberman] Kingprawn, any questions?
[kingprawn] yes! ^_^
[kingprawn] thor, what influences did you take from japanese games like Disgea (pronounced DES GAY A if you aren't japanese, kekeke!) or Advance Wars 3? And can I write fanfiction stories for black hammer?
[ThorBlackHammer] What an excellent question!
[kingprawn] thank you! kekekeke
[ThorBlackHammer] Well, I answered some of the first one already ^_____^ but as for the second, of course! Black Hammer strongly encourages fan culture around Supremacy, and we are flattered that you would find our world so exciting that you would want to add to it.
[ThorBlackHammer] I'd be curious to hear your ideas!
[ThorBlackHammer] DONE
strang has joined the chat.
[kingprawn] it's NC-17 is that OK once I saw a girl
[Roentgen] lol
