Looks like between this and Brutal Legend I'll fill the gap in my hard drive that Sacrifice and Giants occupied on my past computers. I make that statement with all the good and bad connotations that come with it.
While it's necessary to play the story mode once to get the background on all the characters and factions, it seems this game was designed to be played in custom campaign mode, with your generals, the council, and your wife already in place from the start. It feels like one of those Microprose games from the 90s. Sword of the Samurai especially comes to mind. The game plays out in turns, each turn consists of a round of skullduggery in your court, followed by some simple Risk-esque unit shuffling around a map, then a simple RTS skirmish. Sadly the Dragon flying feels more like an RTS game with an actiony part tacked on than an action game with strategy elements. So more Sacrifice than Giants.
