I was aware of the Surface Pro but I wasn’t especially interested in it until I heard it came with a stylus and supported pressure sensitivity. I love gadgets and drawing so it only makes sense that I’ve always been curious about gadgets you can draw on. Since the old Windows tablet computers I’ve been looking for a good way to draw digitally on the go. I gave the iPad a shot but I don’t like drawing with the “eraser tip” capacitive touch styluses. When I read that the Surface Pro uses Wacom tech I was interested. I went down to our local MS store to try one on the day they launched. The demo machine only had one drawing app on it called Fresh Paint which seems like it’s mostly for kids but it was enough to see that the pen felt good and the pressure sensitivity was solid. I came home and mentioned on Twitter that I was interested in the Surface Pro as a drawing platform and I was contacted by MS and offered a machine to test out (I love my job). A few days later I had a brand new 128gb Surface Pro to play with.

I’m still 100% in love with my Surface Pro, especially after the last week. We’ve been in the process of moving into a new office and for a while we were in the new space but none of our stuff was here. The new office has a large lobby area that we have filled with couches and so everyone just hung out there with their laptops. It was actually really fun having everyone in the same space but it’s much harder for me to work that way since I make the strip on a big ass Cintiq. Thanks to the Surface Pro I was able to hang out in the lobby with everyone else and draw all week though. I produced a bunch of strips and even the new Daughters of the Eyrewood artwork I posted, all on my Surface.

There is a Microsoft product that I do love though and that’s my Surface Pro. I use it for drawing comics when I’m not at the office, for playing games, and just as my general purpose computer. You can see in today’s strip I’m playing Sanctum 2 on it and I’m sure some people will think that’s some sort of paid product placement. I want to assure you that’s not something we do here at PA. You can’t actually buy that from us. The best you can do is give us something and hope we like it enough to integrate it into our lives. That’s exactly what happened with the Surface Pro.
We're totally not for sale, guys |
