I was an early defender of Endless Space, but in the end I never got around to winning a campaign because it just... sucks. I was surprised to find that it sucks because it seems so awesome and it's a lot like MOO2 which is one of my all-time favorite games... but halfway through every ES game I'm already saying "Jesus Christ, this is going to take forever." It's a Space Quagmire Simulator.
I read the list of improvements and nothing in there looks like it would solve the core problems of
-there's no fun blowing shit up in this space warfare game
-every game feels like a slog that will take forever even if you eventually win
At one point I was talking to people about their framework for collaborating with customers, and how it was really wonderful, and how they really applied a great "Agile" methodology to game development. In the end, that didn't save them because their customers, in the end, didn't have the heart to tell them that their game - with all its user-requested enhancements - was boring. That's an interesting data point for those of us that feel like constant contact with customers is something that leads to great products. |
