delivered by a terrible creator. But I'm wondering if it isn't the hiring managers, marketers, and publishers that need to watch this shit every time they send an email because they're the ones who decide that hey, a shit writer is okay.
And yeah, there's no point trying to edge past the brick wall of bullshit when it comes to an entire culture of developers that don't live on your continent or speak your language fluently, I know this on a personal basis. But even crazy, horrible cultures still produce pretty interesting shit - if you think Pathologic isn't interesting after reading about it a bit, you're oblivious to themes like Anita was oblivious to Ico's building a set of themes related to childhood - but this is understandable given that all the good shit is locked behind a great big goddamn wall of mistranslated tripe. The crappy translations aside, is there something to criticize behind that nonsense, something that fits into a narrative like Anita's about how games are misogynist shit or whatever tumblr nonsense she's swinging this time? Sure, someone could make bones about the fact that it's set in an era where feminism practically doesn't exist. Are arguments in defense of setting and period and all that crap irrelevant when someone raises the question of whether the points the game makes could have been expressed as capably in a different setting? Could be that they are. But ultimately the effort is made to transcend all that with a better theme, one of even greater value to a viewer immersed in the context of the right culture, and certainly the right language.
I think the bitch just wants to tear something down because she has nothing better to offer, and feels that making a game herself that would fulfill some kind of ideal would expose her to criticism. She's playing a game, her win scenario is other people's money and attention and not improvement in gaming.
Maybe I should go fix Pathologic's dialogue myself, I could certainly manage better than the bunch of morons who've been dragging their heels on the retranslation project practically forever. |
