It's the Witcher 2 with worse combat, TERRIBLE voice acting, and shit shit shit shit shit shit environments. Do you like red and brown dust towns? I sure hope so, because that's all you're getting.
-The game hints at ancient Mars colonist relics with crazy Deus Ex: HR costumes, but all you'll see are brown and red caves with occasional metal struts that are completely indistinguishable from everything else.
-Your AI partner will either manage to take off half a health bar from a single enemy before dying or run for the exit and block, which will distract 2-3 dudes while you deal with the rest (always tell them to defend).
-You get money (serum), but there's seemingly nothing to spend it on. You can find the best weapons just lying around levels and even then your weapon progression will be iron tube (with customs doodads), copper tube (with doodads), and steel tube (with doodads). These people have recovered the ancient secrets of lightning hands and grenades, but nobody can remember how to forge a knife or make gunpowder. Choosing the best upgrades is easy unless you're completely retarded, but even then you're given enough materials to fuck up a few times.
-Your lightning magic is locked until Act 2, so you'll end up spending most of your points on either the skill tree that gives you basic combat functions or the one that gives you stealth (it looked useless, but I can't say for sure).
-FOV is terrible, but luckily most areas are tiny alleys and sheds.
-Arrow to the knee reference.
-Terrible good/bastard morality system. If you're a good guy, you have to beat up the serial rapist/murderer and then give him a strong warning. He comes back within the hour and is back to murdering/raping. Why is there no choice to, I dunno, turn him in to the police? The neighborhood watch? Have him registered as a sex offender?
+Nailguns! Lightning hands! Combat is tolerable once you reach act 2 and can actually fight.
+Slow motion skill menu is nice to have when you want to throw a grenade JUST right.
I think by now you can get the Witcher 1 + 2 for less than $20 if you wait for the right day. If you already finished those, have you beaten The Witcher 2 on dark difficulty? Did you try both paths? Did you replay The Witcher 1 and see how different choices affected your Witcher 2 game? Rage might be cheap now. That was a pretty satisfying game despite its flaws. Most of the time I was playing Mars: War Logs I was thinking about how much nicer it would be to replay one of those. |
