If you count GW2.
There's nothing fundamentally wrong with TOR, it does everything correctly that an MMO should do. Tanks tank. DPS DPS's. Healers heal. it's just kind of uninspired. For me though the network of friends who play and the fact that it's Star Wars keep me subbing. All the good looking gear is moddable and their cash shop has the right idea (paying for moddable gear you can wear at level 1, and throughout the rest of the game). Most of the stuff they take away via Free-2-Play is aesthetic/quality of life stuff, and if you grind a lot, you can buy up most of those QoL upgrades via the in-game auction house for in game money. The only thing you get excluded from if you don't pay is raids and dungeons. You can still participate but you're locked out from rolling for the loot.
Also, while there is a large poopsocking track, it's mostly optional thanks to the aforementioned gear moddability. If a tier sucks visually you can just rip out its mods and put them in the armor you've been enjoying since 25 levels ago.
While I was sad to see them go F2P, it's pretty much saved the game. |
