I developed an interest in Wadget Eye games since playing the Shivah and Gemini Rue, both which were good and in Bundle in a Box. The quality and price of their games seemed more even than Telltale and they didn't rely on licensed properties as hooks. I bought Primordia off of GOG and finished the game last night. It's short (less than 6 hours to finish the whole game) and most game choices only cosmetically affect the end except the one that's right before the game end. That said, like Gemini Rue, it's a sci-fi story with a good premise, puzzles that make sense, and themes of identity and memory. It suffers from unevenness in pacing (the beginning feels too slow and the ending too rushed) and occasionally in tone (the funny sidekick doesn't work as well as Joey did in Beneath a Steel Sky). Religion was handled more delicately than it normally is in games and Clarity was a good NPC. The graphics and villain are better this time around too. |
