Is any game still fun after the gamefaqqots get done with it?by Mischief Maker 12/30/2012, 10:40pm PST
I'm done with FTL now, but I had a lot of fun with it when I first bought it and definitely got my money's worth out of it. The thing is I bought it while it was still relatively brand new and there was almost no information about winning strategies on the web, so I was having a blast and wasting hours and hours dicking around with the system, figuring out the resource management, how to use nebulae, and the HUGE smile on my face the first time I let loose with a fire beam. I'm sure I easily sunk 10 hours into this game, maybe even 20, and was entertained the whole time, and the only reason I quit was because I'd just picked new games to distract me away.
Is it really fair to judge the game at this point, where it's been min-maxed to death by OCD FAQ writers? Reminds me of that old comment that explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. You figure out how it works, but kill the frog in the process. I think one of the main reasons I never fell in love with the original X-Com was because when I started and searched for info on the game, there were already piles and piles of guides telling me how to do things like this:
Final mission finished in a single round? This X-Com game is unbalanced as shit! Does it suck?
