Holy Shit! 2-player Co-Op mode... by Mischief Maker 03/22/2005, 12:02pm PST
...sorta. You kind of have to jerrymander the game to get this to work. It also requires that you've gotten to level 18 and are a cheating little whore, though not necessarily in that order. Minor Spoilerz ahead!

Late in the game you pick up 2 new styles that don't level up and use Devil Trigger while they're active. One of these is "Doppelganger" which makes a shadow Dante that fights by your side. The designers for some reason made it so if you have a controller in port 2, player 2 can take full control of that shadow. Makes the game more exciting to watch, I guess. The one disadvantage is that the shadow only lasts as long as your DT.

The solution? At the title screen hold all 4 shoulder buttons and twirl the left analog stick clockwise until you hear "devil may cry." You've just unlocked all the gallery items, all the difficulty levels, and most importantly, all the alternate costumes. Pick the "Super Dante" skin and you have unlimited Devil Trigger. Play with the Doppelganger style, turn it on and presto! 2-player Co-Op mode.

The disadvantages are that the shadow can only use the 2 weapons Player 1 had equipped when he turned it on. Also the camera is only concerned with what Player 1 is doing, so the shadow better stay by his side. But if the shadow gets lost, just turn the style off and on again and they'll be back together! I also suggest playing at a higher difficulty level since you're both in perma-DT mode.

In case you're worried, the cheat doesn't open any skills you didn't buy or levels you didn't reach or otherwise ruin the regular game. The only thing spoiled is the "sense of accomplishment" that comes from working to get all the fun out of the game you just paid $50 of your paycheck to buy.
