It was pretty decent overall but it just felt like it was missing something.

Maybe story progression? I can see the "less epic than the first game" complaints. It felt like the story was winding down as you progressed instead of escalating.

Combat? I appreciate trying to break away from abstracted RPG combat and into an action brawler, but until computers can run the lowest settings at over 16 fps the technology just isn't there yet. There was something else that didn't feel right about the combat. It seemed totally random whether some attacks would connect or be blocked, stamina was poorly implemented, and you just had to spam the trap spell.

Inventory bullshit? All that fuss over components and inventory management for crafting ingredients and there are MAYBE two or three one time items worth crafting in the entire game. I crafted two swords in Chapter 2 then after that I kept finding awesome swords just lying around, far better than anything available for crafting. I finished some ridiculous quest in the last chapter and got to craft some legendary dark armor only for the next to last boss to be a joke and the final boss fight to be optional.

Difficulty? The scaling was fucked. Enemies seemed to stay the same strength the entire game; you just got stronger as it went on. The hardest part of the game by far is the prologue, the part that's supposed to be the tutorial! After the two chapter 1 boss fights (both of which are bullshit) you'll never run into another challenge again.

Characters/dialog? No those were good.

Branching choices? In the first game it was very clear what your choices meant. For this game they make the bizarre choice of splitting it into two very different branches based off of spur of the moment, seemingly inconsequential decision. It's like they tried to retread the "join the terrorist asshole elves or the prick genocidal humans" bit from the first game, but it's totally not the focus of this game's story. Both parties are after a mutual enemy so what's the point in choosing?

TITS! So they decided to go full polygon frontal, but narrow the scope of nekkid chicks from the first game. Now there are only a couple women in the world who will fuck you and you'll have to turn to busted prostitutes for the rest. This is supposed to be fantasy, not the story of life.

All in all they should have stuck to a combat system that worked in the engine, balanced out the abilities better (so much of the game is devoted to crap that's worthless unless you go alchemy, which you shouldn't), and the whole "chase the assassin" plot condensed into a single chapter with the MILFguard invasion for acts 2 and 3.
