AMD 2400XP
512MB PC2100 RAM
Got it to run with sound after finding out the Win2k problem of my soundcard cutting out within seconds was a problem with the VIA chipset, so I had to go through some queer shit to hex edit register values or something. At any rate, I'll blame this all on id anyways since the card I'm using is an Aureal card which was driven into bankruptcy and bought out by Creative, which John Carmack wanted to snub on support because they patent code, but then pussied out on which therefore keeps them in business. So rather than using his time to build a time machine and stop Creative from crushing a company that manufactured cards better than anything they ever made, Carmack spent it coding EAX support or whatever the new wacky technology is.
Apart from id being the root of all problems in my life (I still haven't forgiven them for being the reason this hot girl turned me down when I asked her to a dance in 10th grade), the game runs pretty well with my card. It auto-detects at medium settings and puts it at 640x480, but I switch to 800x600. In advanced video I think everything is set to Yes, except Anti-Aliasing and the next-to-last option. Overall it runs pretty smoothly, but there's areas with noticeable choppiness. Not enough to make it unplayable, but you way obviously can see the framerate drop. |
