Okay! Here's the explaination for Fight Clubby Mischief Maker 11/03/2012, 8:09pm PDT
The key scene in Fight Club is actually the one where IKEA Boy and Tyler Durden are hanging out discussing their fathers.
Tyler: My dad never went to college, so it was real important that I go.
Narrator: Sounds familiar.
Tyler: So I graduate, I call him up long distance, I say "Dad, now what?" He says, "Get a job."
Narrator: Same here.
Tyler: Now I'm 25, make my yearly call again. I say Dad, "Now what?" He says, "I don't know, get married."
Narrator: I can't get married, I'm a 30 year old boy.
Tyler: We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need.
The story is basically IKEA Boy's quest for manhood. Fight Club is his way of trying to find manhood through a self-punishing rite of passage. Project Mayhem is lashing out at the society that subrogated rites of passage with the empty highs of consumerism. In the end, he finally takes the ultimate act of defiance against Tyler, his father surrogate, and claims his manhood. Now that he's no longer a 30 year old boy, he can start a relationship with Marla, and he can face the consequences of his actions (blowing up the credit card buildings), and there is no longer a need to imagine a "better me" Tyler Durden.
So it's a happy ending for this person in a mixed up crazy world!
