Steam just tossed it in my face and reminded me of all the fun I had playing the original. The Internet tells me assholes still play the original mod "Competitively". I really liked the different gameplay between the two sides and the feel of adding some "strategic level" to influence the little league soccer "everyone chases the ball in a clump" feel of contemporary FPS.
The simplest counter argument is whichever side rushed resources was going to win bar some utter retard dooming their side, with marines having the giant penalty of that retard getting in the chair and the other assholes pitching a hissy fit outside the chair rather than playing.
Still, just seeing the splash ad, knowing nothing about the game just prompted a flood of "remember that one time when you did that cool thing" memories, which I think could be argued as the hallmark of a successful game design. |
