I think the biggest issue facing Americans is the business cycle's shift to Asia... I don't see either party addressing that; rather, I see them equally aggressive in facilitating it. Financialization comes second and both parties are equally complicit here.
Climate change is a red herring, it will never be politically viable for any party to address it until it makes Americans actually suffer. Some Republicans lie more on this score but I think it's irrelevant.
Likewise the identity politics stuff, it is window dressing. If you're gay you can always move to the coasts, if you care about science education for your kids then you can visit a public library, if you want an abortion then you can drive across state lines etc. Not a big deal, nothing like the country shedding its entire manufacturing sector and the renter class collecting their toll for moving the plants overseas.
