Has any post-public shareholder ever come out ahead when it comes to dot coms?
Other failures: Yahoo, Groupon, Pandora, Blue Nile, the Knot, Yelp. Myspace and Second Life weren't public, but they're also examples of internet companies that are worth single digit percentages compared to what they were valued at their peak.
What Amazon did amazed me. They sold shit for a gigantic loss for years in order to become the default internet retailer everyone thought of. And it worked! It worked. Unbelievable. |
