Load times are really really long. The music takes a couple seconds to react to what's going on. Framerates are pretty choppy, but never become an unplayable slideshow. This is probably the buggiest game I've played on the PS2. Hangups, AI glitch-ups, and voice tracks during briefings just dropping out. Still, it's a zillion times less buggy than the average computer game release.
Basically the game's GTA3 with air strikes instead of social satire and the visual aesthetic of Morrowind. The hook is that any building or vehicle can be blown up. But watch out for allies and civilians in the ensuing carnage, they'll dock your pay. The crazy swede's the most likable character to play, but his speed makes the game a little too easy because you can easily circle strafe your way to safety around any enemy soldier. The stealth chick is probably the best choice because she can blow shit up just as well as the other guys, but she has more options for getting into position. As usual, hitting an enemy with the butt of your gun kills them in 1/10th the time it takes with a machine gun.
Fun, but I think I'll be trading this game as soon as GOW comes out. |
