I get the impression there's about a million little fiefdoms inside Microsoft VCRs & Fake iPhones Division or whoeverthefuck is responsible for Xbox, and all of them are expected to be profitable individually. So you get the online guys charging for the online service, the ad guys selling advertising on the paid online service, the DLC guys charging for certification on every download, the hardware guys marking up proprietary hard drives to hold the paid downloads, and God knows what kind of scam the warranty guys are running these days. What they don't seem to have is one guy who can see that maybe nickel and diming people for services the market leaders are giving away for free is maybe why they're still neck-and-neck with PlayStation 3, a colossal fucking dinosaur failure, and not swimming in pools of money and misplaced consumer loyalty with Apple and Nintendo. |
