Jerry Whorebach's mention of how Canada's combined GST and PST is 12% plus other taxes on bottles of soda, for example, made me think about the issue of sales taxes.
I wonder in the case of sales taxes that vary by city, if you purchase a car, do you pay the sales tax based on where the dealer is located or where you live? This can be significant when we're talking about the difference of 7.25 vs 9%. A $15,000 automobile would be $1088 at 7.25; at 9% it's $1350. |
