I logged hundreds of hours into BF2 and 2142. I only played about a dozen of this before I got bored and drifted off. Half of that time was mindless grinding points in hopes it would become fun with the unlocks. It didn't.
Except for graphics, there isn't one single aspect that isn't a huge step back from 2142. Most of the graphics updates were spent on various ways to visually incapacitate and blind you: sun glare, flashlight, laser sight, shell shock. They even have "suppression", which means any bullets that hit near you cause everything to go choppy and blurry.
BF2142 still looks better since they got the worst UI designer in the world to ruin the entire visual presentation. Waypoint? Spawnpoint? Friendly? Squad leader order? Health bar? It's all neon light blue, have fun telling it apart on the fly. Now enjoy your map spinning around so you can never tell which way is north, because having your dude's map icon remain static is more important than telling where you're going. |
