I gave this game every chance I could but it continues to disappoint. The novelty of it comes from the unprecedented ability for the player to do real detective work (analyzing motive, finding holes in testimony, thinking about the evidence). That should make for a cool game! However, the crucial mistake is that the plotline requires you to swallow a shitload of red herrings. This is a big error because, if this is your first time playing a video game that hinges on actual detective work, then you already have enough hurdles to overcome before you find your footing. You have to figure out how to detect a liar, how to interpret the clues, what the proper procedure is, etc.
The problem is that this game says 'fuck you' by way of "yeah your reasoning is correct but for the purpose of the story you have to choose the wrong answer". That kind of shit is better left to a sequel, once the players have internalized the gameplay.
I picked it up again after a month of TF2 and finally caught the Black Dahlia killer. Who gives a shit. I don't think I'll be finishing this game. I want to emphasize, though, that I am the TARGET FUCKING AUDIENCE for this kind of thing! If anyone would be interested in a Rockstar 1940's LA Detective Black Dahl-fap-fap-fap-fap-fap-fap for fuck's sake it's me. Too bad the execution is so underwhelming.
