I saw a commercial where some woman was listed as a Lung Cancer Advocate. Who the hell would want to be a lung cancer advocate? I thought they got rid of those when the Tobacco industry had to shut down The Tobacco Institute, its mouthpiece that tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to claim that cigarettes weren't dangerous and didn't cause cancer.
But really, how do you have a job where you advocate for Lung Cancer? "Is your life too long and do you breathe too easily? Solve both problems, get lung cancer!"
I mean, if the woman was a "lung cancer victim advocate" that would be a different thing, you're trying to be of assistance to victims of lung cancer, but clearly, if you're a "lung cancer advocate" then your job is to promote and encourage lung cancer!
Which I guess does make sense since it was an ad for a law firm suing companies involved in making asbestos, and probably were most interested in mesothelioma. (Huh, the spell checker actually has that word in it.) |
